Prayer for Peace Throughout Election Cycle
Lord, help us adhere to your Commandments throughout the 2020 election cycle.
Welcome back to Weekly Prayer, a newsletter for today’s rapidly changing world. Today, we will be covering a shooting that occurred yesterday in Portland amidst political protests and praying for a peaceful election cycle.
News Item: Fatal Shooting in Portland Amidst Political Protests

Physical violence has become too common in today’s political discourse. Just yesterday in Portland, amidst political unrest that included firing of paintball pellets and the blocking of roads, a man was fatally shot. It was reported that the man, who remains unidentified, was wearing a hat with the name of a local far-right group, Patriot Prayer.
Although it is still unclear whether the killing was related to the clashes, this event hopefully is a wake-up call to everyone involved in politics to any extent.
Prayer: Prayer for Peace During 2020 Election Cycle

The animosity in the political discourse has reached record levels, and some of it has led to violence over the past couple of months. Today, I want to encourage you to pray for peace during the 2020 election cycle.
“Lord, given the upcoming election cycle, we pray that our country focuses on debating ideas passionately but with respect for each individual involved in the political discourse. Help us make sure to never violate any of your Commandments with the way we communicate our positions so we can be sources of your light during this election cycle. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.”
