Prayer for Those Battling Amazon Rainforest Fires
Father, we need Your heavenly gifts to help heal and protect the Earth and the life upon it
Welcome back to Weekly Prayer, a newsletter for today’s rapidly changing world. Last week we had some technical difficulties to work through, and therefore did not post any newsletter, but we are back today! Today we will be covering the fires in the Amazon rainforest in northwestern Brazil and praying for the residents and wildlife of that area. Let’s dive into it.
News Item: Amazon Fires Affect Residents

As an article from Reuters stated, speculators burn parts of the Amazon forest to make room for pastures. They often set fire to the foliage during the dry season so that the weather can be blamed for the flames; however, many experts and locals know that these fires aren’t natural.
In the process of destroying one of the most valuable weapons against climate change, the fires are destroying farmland, which many families depend on. Unfortunately, data from Brazil’s space agency, INPE, shows that the Amazon has seen the highest number of fires for this month since 2010. Furthermore, Ane Alencar, the Director of Science at the Amazon Environmental Research Institute, noted that she expects a “catastrophic burning season.”
Deforestation is up 34.5% in the 12 months through July of 2020, and political support for it could fuel a continuation of current practices. Let us pray for all lives affected.
Prayer: Prayer for Those Affected by the Amazon Rainforest Fires

“Dear Lord, please hear our words to you today as we pray for all of those affected by the forest fires that are currently happening in the Amazon rainforest. Give residents and wildlife protection from deadly blazes and watch out for all living beings who are suffering because of this event. Additionally, please give us the strength to protect the natural wonders you have created. Amen.”
