Prayer for Women's Equality
“God of all, we pray for women and girls today so that they will be all they can be”
Welcome back to Weekly Prayer, a newsletter for today’s rapidly changing world. Today, we will be covering several events that speak to the growing prominence of women’s influence in political circles and praying for equality for women. Let’s dive into it!
News Items: Justice Ginsburg Dies at 87, Trump Vows to Appoint Female Justice, Biden Runs with Kamala Harris

Women have traditionally not had significant access to the public politics sphere. For reference, only about 24% of members of the US Congress (both Senators and Representatives) are women, which is still an improvement over a 15% figure in 2005. Nevertheless, recent events have highlighted women’s sustained importance in public circles.
On Friday, the world came to know of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death from complications of pancreatic cancer. As the second woman to ever serve on the nation’s highest court, she helped set legal precedent that will rule the country for the foreseeable future. Throughout her life, she made it a primary aim to help and support women in part because of her personal and professional experiences. During a 2019 NPR interview, she said the following: “I went to law school when women were less than 3% of lawyers in the country; today, they are 50%. I never had a woman teacher in college or in law school. The changes have been enormous.” Although a controversial member of the Court, her intelligence and consistency are admirable.
The world lost a woman of great renown who was a role model for many women, but President Trump has vowed to appoint another woman to the Supreme Court, a move that highlights the country’s sustained reliance on female leaders. According to certain sources, Trump is considering appointing Amy Barrett, the first and only woman to occupy an Indiana seat on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, or Barbara Lagoa, the first Hispanic woman and the first Cuban American woman on the Supreme Court of Florida.
Lastly, Biden’s running with Kamala Harris, the third woman and first Black and Asian American candidate to be nominated for Vice-President by a major political party, underscores the importance of women in American politics.
Let us pray for equal treatment for women.
